Criminal case results are difficult to quantify. For someone seeking my services, the results of a criminal case can be seen more clearly, or have more meaning, when given some context.

Case Results

Homicides

I have obtained Not Guilty verdicts in homicide cases. The hardest of which was a case where I believed the client was actually, and factually, not guilty. Over the last 30 years, I have represented dozens of homicide defendants—many of whom did not go to prison.

Drug Crimes

I have obtained Not Guilty verdicts in drug cases in both State and Federal Courts. I have received extraordinary results due to the personal and intimate sentencing reports and arguments tailored specifically to each case and client. My talents in this area have been heralded by the best of my peers throughout the country. Most often, the determining factor at sentencing is the amount of drugs for which the defendant has been charged and convicted. This is true in both State and Federal Courts, but drug crime sentencing results can vary depending on whether the case is in a State or Federal Court.

In Federal Courts, for instance, the time a defendant serves while awaiting release—whether it’s only a day, or several months—can result in a sentence of time-served followed by a term of supervised release. In order to avoid confusion, throughout the following list of sentencing results, I have chosen to use the word probation as shorthand for “supervised release without an initial sentence to the Bureau of Prisons” when referencing results from Federal Courts below.

I Get Results

Every case is different, so you need a skilled defense attorney to get the best possible results in your particular case.

Sexual Assault

The hardest work I have ever done in these cases is when representing innocent people who have been wrongly accused. Because I also represent children charged with crimes, I know it is a complete fallacy—one which is reinforced and always repeated by prosecutors—to say that children never lie. Yes, they do.

If you hire me, I cannot guarantee any particular result. I work terribly hard—that I can guarantee. I do not give up—that I can guarantee. I am not afraid to admit what I do not know, because I can guarantee that I will learn it. Not so many years ago, I was hired by a CEO who was charged with criminal violations related to the Clean Air and Water Act. I read all there was to know about dioxins and furans and other persistent organic pollutants (POPs), and even encountered a whole new use of the word vacuums. The end result being that, after 9 months and phenomenal investigation, the CEO was never charged.

Not Charged

Any Results page on a lawyer’s website should have a section titled “Not Charged”, which in my 30+ years practicing law would include far too many cases to list individually.

If I have not said it already, the sooner one finds out one is in the crosshairs of law enforcement, the sooner you should hire me so our investigator can start interviewing witnesses and reviewing documents. I have been practicing law long enough that my first investigator, Kevin Cassidy, has long since retired. I now work with a new fabulous investigator, Angela Kvidera, who is so disarmingly brilliant that I consider myself twice blessed. I am also nationally known for treatment alternatives to incarceration that result in no incarceration and or no conviction.

I have been practicing criminal defense law for 30 years.  The results listed above represent only a handful of cases and a handful of results.

Yes, is the answer to the question have you lost cases? Yes, is also the answer to the question have my clients been sentenced to prison? And, yes, to paraphrase Franz Kafka, those are the clients whose knife I turn inside myself.
